SFU Downtown to face picket lines

VANCOUVER—Frustrated by SFU’s refusal to negotiate, members of CUPE Local 3338 will set up picket lines on its downtown Vancouver campus tomorrow.  Close to 70 CUPE members at SFU Harbour Centre and SFU Woodward’s will walk off the job and picket Friday morning starting at 8:30 am. Other campus buildings will not be affected.

Talks, job action continue at BC universities

BURNABY—CUPE contract talks are scheduled this week at four BC universities. Dates have been set at Thompson Rivers University, the University of Northern British Columbia, the University of Victoria and UBC.  Job actions continue at several campuses ranging from overtime bans to picket lines.

CUPE clerical workers at UBC sign tentative deal

VANCOUVER – CUPE Local 2950, representing 1,500 clerical, library and hospital staff at the University of British Columbia, has signed a tentative collective agreement. The deal reached early this afternoon is for 0-0-2-2% wage increases over four years ending in 2014. 

Highlights of the deal: 
• No concessions
• No wage increases for the first two years under the provincial Net Zero Mandate
• 2% wage increase retroactive to April 1, 2012

CUPE 116 sees red at UBC

VANCOUVER—CUPE universities job action continues this week with overtime bans and picket lines at UBC. CUPE 116 at the University of British Columbia set up picket lines early Tuesday morning shutting down the General Services Administration Building (GSAB) and Mary Bollert Hall.

BC Universities Behind Picket Lines

VICTORIA—BC's five largest universities will be behind picket lines today. More than 12,000 CUPE support workers at all five campuses are launching job action aimed at getting their employers back to the bargaining table.

CUPE Workers Send SFU a Message – Negotiate Now!

SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY—CUPE’s 1,020 support workers at SFU have had enough. After more than two years of fruitless talks at the bargaining table, CUPE Local 3338 members have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action. 

The 78 percent strike mandate was tallied last night after voting this week at SFU’s three campuses. The union must still file 72-hour strike notice at the BC Labour Board before taking job action.

UVic agrees to return to bargaining table

VICTORIA—In a joint release issued today, CUPE locals at the University of Victoria and the administration have agreed to return to the bargaining table. 

The joint release states that: The University of Victoria and CUPE locals 917, 951 and 4163 have agreed to return to the bargaining table next week starting Tuesday, Sept. 18. While bargaining is underway job action will be suspended and neither party will be commenting on the negotiations or any associated issues.

SFU Workers ready for strike vote

SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY—CUPE local 3338 will hold a strike vote Sept. 25-27.  The local represents 1,200 support workers at the university’s three campuses.
